Meet our team

Jason Anker MBE
Jason Anker MBE
Founder Proud2bSafe Jason Anker MBE

Jason is a father of 2. Lifelong Nottingham Forest fan.
He works alongside his children Abbi and Sam to influence change and attitude towards safety not just in the workplace but in our everyday lives.

''I was paralysed from the waist down due to an avoidable accident on a construction site in 1993 when I was just 24 years old.

I only started speaking about my accident in 2009 and that is reflected in a story that is as hard hitting as if it had happened yesterday.

My passion is to prevent others from having to go through what myself, my family and friends have had to go through over the last 23 years.

I was awarded an MBE in the 2014 New Year’s Honours

If we could stop just one person from suffering a life changing accident then it is worth all the effort we put in."

Sean Toon
Sean Toon
Jason’s friend & speaker Sean Toon

One of Jason’s best friend’s since infant school.  Both life- long Forest fans and also playing in the same local village football team.  Previously a delivery man until Jason approached me to initially be his driver.

''Whilst listening to Jason’s story every day, I started to open up about some of the emotional impact that his accident had had on me and my family, things I had never talked about before to anyone. This really shocked Jason, and he encouraged me to share my story with you.

We are continually expanding on my story as I have gained confidence in sharing the effects this had on me, my friends and work colleagues based on the great feedback i have had from live sessions''.

'Sean now provides a powerful and effective angle on my story in my live presentations which receives excellent feedback' - Jason Anker MBE

Abbi Taylor

Abbi is 27 years old, married to Fergus and has just welcomed a baby daughter into the world.

Abbi is Jason's personal assistant as well as dealing with all sales and booking queries for the Proud2bSafe team.

''I love my job and I love what the company stands for, I was just 3 years old when my dad had his accident at work, and it is now 20 plus years after his accident and it is still affecting me and my family today.

As part of the P2BS journey I will be available for site visits and live events alongside my dad''

Sam Anker
Sam Anker
Jason’s Son & Social Media Manager Sam Anker

Sam is 24 and works full time for his dad Jason at Proud2bSafe.

''I left school not really knowing what I wanted to do. Having worked in various job roles from Power stations to a Water-skiing instructor, I started to take an interest in my Dad’s presentations. I saw how speaking out about my Dad’s accident and how it affected all our lives on a daily basis could benefit others as well as ourselves.

I am now actively involved as the P2BS social media manager and I am available for live events alongside my dad''

Matt Hazelton
Matt Hazelton
Speaker Matt Hazelton

Father of 3 fantastic kids and a massive lover of football. Previously a company director.

''I am the manager of my village team in senior football, as well as going to watch Ipswich Town F.C as much as I can.  Another passion of mine is fishing along with music and I try to attend as many festivals/gigs as possible.

Due to an extremely sad and traumatic event in my personal and business life, I found myself wondering how I could make a difference to others.

Proud2bSafe has encouraged and motivated me to share me and my family’s experiences in order to encourage directors and senior managers to be more responsible for their actions, the people they employ, and also show the affect of how things can quickly escalate and affect not only their lives, families, friends and work colleagues but the same of the employee too''

Paul Blanchard
Paul Blanchard
Speaker Paul Blanchard

Paul works as a motivational and behavioural safety speaker. Having been in a major accident falling from height several years ago while fixing a roof at a farm, Paul speaks on the emotional perspective of why Health and Safety is not just about ticking boxes.

The empowerment of staff to feel the responsibility for both their own safety and that of their co-workers does not come from a Health and Safety lecture. With Paul’s story to the same group, he brings a real purpose to the subject. Rather than just going through the motions of H&S conformity, the audience is reached through empathy with someone who has felt the full effect of an industrial accident.

Paul's story is really about the realisation that his life had changed, and having the determination to adapt to the new direction in life and trying to inspire others.

Emma Currie
Emma Currie
Speaker/Actor Emma Currie

Emma Currie is a story teller and story gatherer.  She uses story telling techniques to engage people in observing and shaping their culture. After graduating from the Royal Conservatoire in Glasgow (Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama) Emma spent 10 years in repertory theatre and also worked in TV and Radio, playing a variety of roles as a professional actress. She set up her company Acting Up in 1997 following a chance request to provide corporate after dinner theatre for an oil company in Aberdeen; this led to her writing and producing a series of pieces on topics such as Supply Chain Management, Reputation, Leadership, Change, Safety Behaviour and Mental Well-being.  She has made a name for herself by creating stimulus in the form of characters who represent behaviours and syndromes in all walks of corporate culture.  Acting Up has developed a 7 step process which uses theatre, story gathering techniques, film, e-learning and props to inspire engagement and to put the wise human at the heart of all we do. She has worked extensively for Shell, BP, Amec FW, Balfour Beatty, Diageo and Kier Construction amongst many others.

Dylan Skelhorn
Dylan Skelhorn
Speaker Dylan Skelhorn

Dylan previously worked as a heating engineer. On 20th June 2011 at age 30, he fell 33 feet from the roof of a house causing severe multiple life-changing injuries.

Dylan is now a Safety Ambassador for Willmott Dixon but is still available for Proud2bSafe live events.

''After meeting Jason Anker MBE, he convinced me that I could make a difference by changing people’s attitudes towards their safety and that of others.

Proud2bSafe has enabled me to share me and my family’s experiences in order to encourage managers and supervisors to be more responsible for their actions.  Having had my safety concerned ignored by my supervisor it’s really important that my message for everyone is that you should encourage all your staff to speak up and know they are listened to about any concerns they have as the norm.

I now share my story to show you how the consequences of other peoples decisions has affected my life and the people around me, including family and friends but also the affect on the supervisor and the company I worked for''
